What to Expect
What To Do Before Acupuncture
It is important to have had something to eat a couple of hours prior to your acupuncture treatment. It is also good to have some water before your appointment, or at least not be dehydrated.
What To Do After Acupuncture
Listen to your body. If you are feeling slow or tired, try to give yourself some time to rest. It can take from 3 - 60 hours for the full benefits of an acupuncture treatment to settle. The best thing to do is to allow your body, mind, and spirit time to absorb the information it received in treatment.
Once again, drinking plenty of water will allow any debris, toxins or excess to exit your body with more ease.
Cupping can create marks that can last for 7-10 days on average. Drinking water, exercise, and warmth can all aid in resolving the marks. Arnica lotion or oil can be topically applied daily to also support quicker healing.
How Often To Have Acupuncture
Often patients start to feel shifts in one or two treatments, I recommend regular treatments until the issue is completely resolved.
For maintenance, once a month or every change of season.
For acute issues, once or twice weekly, extending to every week, then every two weeks or longer as symptoms resolve.
For more chronic issues, regular treatments are recommended, the intervals would depend on the imbalance.
This medicine works in gentle progressive steps over time. You are the one doing the work, and it takes some committment on your path to progress. I see myself as a gardener, adjusting light, placement, water, and soil, so that a plant can do what it intrinsically knows....how to grow and flourish. You have all that you need to be balanced, you may just require some shifts, patience, and encouragement to achieve this.
